A Big Week at Pure Passions Farm in Kent, Ohio
Some weekends remind you why you started.
This past week at Pure Passions Farm was one of those defining stretches — the kind where you go to bed completely exhausted, but deeply encouraged. From sold-out events on the farm to mobile animal experiences across Northeast Ohio, it felt like everything we’ve been building is starting to compound.
And the best part?
It’s all happening right here in Kent, Ohio.
Our First Sold-Out MOOOvie Night
We hosted our first completely sold-out MOOvie Night, and the energy was unreal. Families bundled up, couples grabbed blankets, and our micro mini Highland cows made their rounds stealing hearts before the movie even started.
Our Valentine’s Paint & Sip event also sold out, and nearly every private tour slot for the weekend was booked. On top of that, we had a dozen off-the-farm mobile experiences — bringing calves, goats, and smiles to locations all over Northeast Ohio.
Moments like this don’t happen by accident.
They happen because of an incredible team that shows up early, stays late, adapts quickly, and genuinely cares about creating meaningful experiences for every guest.
The Stars of the Show: Apple Jax, Remy, Penelope & Theo
All of our animals were a hit, but the undeniable stars were our four calves:
- Apple Jax
- Remy
- Penelope
- Theo
There is something about baby Highland calves that melts people. Watching kids brush them, couples cuddle them, and grandparents laugh alongside them never gets old. These calves aren’t just animals — they’re memory-makers.
Presidents Day on the Farm: Why I Still Guide Tours
Monday (Presidents Day) brought another wave of private tours thanks to schools and businesses being closed.
Four team members — including myself and our newest addition, Elena — stepped in to guide tours. While working inthe business means I’m not working on the business, I’ll never fully step away from tours.
Why?
Because I love watching what happens during them.
I love seeing:
- A shy child open up while brushing a calf
- A stressed-out adult visibly relax
- Families learning something new about agriculture
- The therapy and joy animals naturally provide
That’s the heartbeat of agritourism in Northeast Ohio. It’s education, therapy, and fun wrapped into one authentic farm experience.
TV Cameras, Donkeys & an Easter Legend
Tuesday brought something new — a local TV station visited to prepare for a feature on our donkeys and their connection to Easter.
Have you ever heard the legend of the cross on a donkey’s back?
The story says that a humble donkey carried Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. During the crucifixion, the donkey stayed nearby out of loyalty and sorrow. As a sign of blessing, the shadow of the cross fell across its back — and ever since, donkeys have carried that distinct dark cross marking along their spine and shoulders.
Whether you view it as legend or faith tradition, it’s a powerful story — and a meaningful reminder of humility and service.

Behind the Scenes: Vet Visits & Growing Partnerships
While cameras were on the farm, real farm work was happening too.
Our vet disbudded Theo and Penelope and performed wellness checks on all four calves. Not glamorous — but necessary. Healthy animals are the foundation of everything we do.
Off the farm, we had:
- A collaboration meeting with the Fairfield Hotel in Streetsboro (team-building event incoming
) - A new partnership forming with Ignite Brewing Company in Barberton — and potentially Brunswick
We’ve worked with breweries before, but this could become our first regular, recurring brewery partnership. Bringing cows to Paint & Sip events in local breweries combines two of our favorite things: community and creativity.

One Major Operational Win
After temporarily hauling calves in our personal Jeep Wrangler (which now permanently smells like farm life), we finally got our cargo van back from the repair shop.
That van went out the same night for another mobile event.
It may seem small — but operational improvements like this matter. The smoother our logistics, the more consistent and professional our off-site experiences become.
Why This Week Matters
This wasn’t just a busy week.
It was proof that:
- Agritourism in Northeast Ohio is growing
- Families are craving connection
- Local partnerships are strengthening
- Our team is stepping into higher capacity
- The vision is scaling
I’m exhausted.
But I’m encouraged.
Seeing families choose to spend their time and money supporting a local, family-run farm is something I don’t take lightly.
